The view from the top floor of my parents place.

My favourite bar is slated to be demolished and replaced by ugly, expensive condos, just like everything else interesting in this city. So I’m trying to remind myself why I live here.

Hey I might be going to Vancouver for one of those group vacations later this year. Can you recommend on what to see and do in Vancouver and BC?

There unfortunately isn’t really anything car-related unless you’re here during the autoshow. Other than that, there’s tons of craft breweries and some distilleries, lots of hiking trails in North Vancouver. The Alibi room makes my favourite burger and has the best beer selection. Some generally nice locations are Whytecliff Park, Lighthouse Park, Vanier Park which includes the Maritime Museum. If you like Art Deco you have to check out the Marine Building, and if you’ve rented a car and feel like going a little farther out, the Air Museum in Langley is small but good. If you feel like a short day trip, Squamish is a gorgeous drive, or a bit farther to Whistler.

As for beer, I recommend Brassneck, Storm, Strathcona, Callister and Superflux which share a building, Doans, and the unofficially named Brewer’s Row in Port Moody because Moody Ales, Yellow Dog, Twin Sails, and Parkside are all on the same street across from the rather gorgeous Rocky Point Park.

Oh, and check out who is playing at the Orpheum theatre when you’re gonna be here, it’s one of the most impressive buildings in the city.
